Trekking through the Himalayas had always been a dream of mine, but to be honest, I never thought it was something that I would ever actually achieve. I never had anyone that wanted to do it with me, and the thought of trekking solo was something that I found quite daunting. But in 2019, the very end of the decade, everything happened to fall into place…
On the 10th of November, I began the 12-day trek to Everest Base Camp with Outfitter Nepal and a group of 7 other incredible people. And as expected, it was the trip of an absolute lifetime (to say the very least).
The route went as follows:
Lukla – Phakding – Namche Bazaar – Tyangboche – Dingboche – Lobuche – EBC – Gorak Shep – Pheriche – Namche Bazaar – Lukla
Aside from getting a terrible case of food poisoning that continued to destroy my digestive system for weeks on end, this was the most rewarding experience I’ve ever had in my life. Trekking 130 km at high altitude (with the added “bonus” of not being able to keep any food in your system) is incredibly challenging and testing on your body and mind, but it teaches you a lot about yourself and the incredible world around you.
Nothing will ever prepare you for the way the mountains impact your soul; it truly is the biggest privilege to live on this Earth and to experience the power of nature, but to experience the magic of the Himalayas is a whole nother level. No matter whether you do this famous hike or a slightly easier trek, you always walk away from those giants a different person to the one who walked in.
There were ups, and there were most certainly downs, but I would do it all over again tomorrow if I could. No ifs or buts.
So without further ado, here is a collection of images from my journey through the Himalayas; from Lukla to Everest Base Camp and everything in between… Enjoy!
