LIEBSTER AWARD – TRAVEL FOR DIFFERENCE
What a way to brighten my day!
I have very gratefully been nominated for the Liebster Award by the lovely Cassidy from Cassidy’s Adventures.
This award is not technically an ‘award’ as such, simply a recognition to online bloggers, to create a community of like-minded content creators, to establish a larger readership and to simply spread love to those who are following their dreams in the world of blogging.
The rules for the ‘award’ are as follows:
- Thank the person who nominated you, and post a link to their site on your blog.
- Display the award on your blog
- Answer their 10 questions about yourself.
- Nominate 5-10 other bloggers for the award and inform them via social media.
- Create your own set of questions for your nominees.
- Enjoy winning an award and pass this great feeling onto someone else
What is your favourite off the beaten path destination?
My favourite location thus far, is definitely the glacier lagoon I encountered in Iceland, after taking a spontaneous random turn.
It was on our way to Jökulsárlón (the real glacier lagoon), when we decided to go offroading in a car that was far from a 4×4. After a stretch of very bumpy road, we eventually came across a lagoon that was entirely frozen over. It had hundreds of icebergs, and the edge of an enormous glacier was only a hundred metres away.
I’m sure other people have encountered this incredible location too, but for me, it was so exciting to experience something so amazing without a single soul in sight.
What do you miss most from home when you are on the road?
My partner if he’s not with me. My pets – especially if it’s a long trip. Whenever I encounter animals overseas I can’t resist the urge to pat them and interact.
And also the comfort of my own bed.
How and why did you start your blog?
I started Travel for Difference in May 2016, due to a few different reasons. Mainly because I love travel, I enjoy writing and I wanted to do something out of the ordinary.
Especially something that allowed me to step away from the 9-5 lifestyle.
It took hours and hours of hard work to make this space on my own. Long nights and early mornings, but it was totally worth it. A few things inspired me to take the plunge, which I delved more into on my very first blog post!
If you could earn money with anything, what would it be?
This blog. It’s my dream, and thankfully the road has already begun.
What does a perfect travel day look like for you?
It totally depends on the location, and I also don’t think there is one kind of perfect day.
I’m definitely a morning person though, so if I had to pick it would be an early wake-up, a light breakfast and then a few hours of exploring, a relaxing afternoon and followed by a beautiful dinner location with a view to watch the sunset.
Postcard or email?
Email hands down. I don’t think I’ve ever sent a postcard in my life – Should I be ashamed?
What is your favourite social media and why?
I love taking photos and sharing memories. As I’ve said plenty of times before, I’m not a professional photographer, but I do love taking snaps. I find Instagram easier to connect with people, to find inspiration and to make relationships with others in the same niche!
What’s your funniest story from your travels?
There have been so many.
One that stands out in my mind though, was when walking back from a hike in Jasper, Alberta, and being terrified by a sudden high pitch squeal. My instant thought was that a young girl was in danger, so we stopped to see if it occurred again. After the second squeal, we realised it was a young male Elk and we quickly got out of its way.
We stopped to chat with a lady that we had met and realised the Elk had followed us into the town. It began to wander down through the streets and into people’s backyards with a huge group of curious locals on his tail.
It was a very strange – and amusing – experience.
What’s the craziest thing on your bucket list you want to do?
I have two. One being Antarctica. It’s number one on my bucket list, and although I don’t think it’s that crazy, I seem to attract interesting looks when it comes into the conversation. So I have to assume it’s not as common as I thought?
Number two is swimming with humpback whales in Tonga. The ocean scares the hell out of me, but I’m willing to overcome my fear of swimming in the deep blue to experience some of the biggest mammals on earth. If you haven’t seen any images of this experience, have a look at this beautiful whale dive gallery!
What do you collect from your trips?
I collect a tacky, touristy keyring from every country I visit. They hang on a little tree that I have, and it’s growing to be quite the collection!
So here are my nominees for the next Liebster Award:
Here are my 10 questions to follow:
- What destination is number one on your bucket list?
- Tours or Independent travel?
- What’s your favourite travel tip/hack?
- Beach Holiday or Mountain Adventure?

- Your favourite quote?
- What do you collect from your travels?
- What is the one thing you’d love to change in the world?
- What has been the scariest memory from your travels?
