PEOPLE OF SOUTHERN INDIA
The people of Southern India, much like those in the North, were welcoming, kind and incredibly proud.
Throughout my Kerala trip, I was proven once again, that the stereotypes given to the Indian locals are often hugely false. As I travelled around the state, not once did I feel vulnerable, afraid, threatened or anything but welcomed.
Northern India gave me a slightly different experience, but here in the South was a totally different story…
I received more unnecessary smiles and embraces than I would in my home country of Australia; little kids wave at every bus that passes, the locals smile back to every smile they receive and without a shadow of a doubt, the people in Kerala are some of the kindest I’ve ever encountered (I know I say that a lot but it’s true).
Watching them go about their daily life was fascinating; from brushing their teeth and washing their clothes, to obtaining their food for their next meal was especially different from what we do in the west.
It made me appreciate how easy it is to go to the supermarket and grab some vegetables (and be vegetarian for that matter) instead of requiring someone to go fishing for hours just to have food for dinner.
It was heartwarming that when people saw the camera, they would do nothing but smile and give a kind-natured wave for the image. Beautiful doesn’t even begin to express how the Indian people really are ♡
So anyway, here is a collection of some of my favourite shots! I must also add, there are a couple of images in this post that were taken on my short stopover in Negombo, Sri Lanka; another incredible area of Asia!
Let me know in the comments below if you’ve ever been to this part of the world, and if the people were as kind as I found them to be… Enjoy!
