What is success?
Ask yourself, is being successful having an expensive car and a fancy home? Owning a big boat? Or having an 8 digit bank account?
There is definitely a contrast that we need to differentiate – a successful profession, and a successful person. Unfortunately, one always seems to be left behind.
This word of success is too often thrown around at people with prestigious careers and a lot of wealth, whilst completely ignoring the most important factors of embracing a truly successful life. It’s time that we stop defining success as fame, wealth and social status, and starting to use this as a term for people that have achieved authenticity and grace. Let’s define success as those who display kindness, strength, perseverance, tolerance, gratitude, love and positivity.
After all, aren’t we all successful?
Here is what success means to me:
Success to me, is making others smile. Bringing happiness to the lives that need the most uplifting, being able to make people happy on even the gloomiest of days, and always being kind no matter the circumstances. Smiling is the result of happiness, so making others do that is a true achievement in itself.
Success to me, is making an impact in the world. Being able to leave this life knowing that I’ve done something good – or at least attempted too. Even if that simply means making others question their thoughts and intentions, inspiring people to make a change within themselves, or profoundly touching the life of only one person. To me, making a positive impact is the core foundation of my success.
Success to me, is feeling loved, and being able to accept it. Finding a partner in crime who I love to spend every waking moment with (I already found one ✔️) even through all of the flaws, differences and sometimes distance. Being able to accept love without any jealousy or comparison to others.
Success to me, is exploring the world. Living the life of my dreams, discovering this beautiful world we call home and accepting all of the diversity that lies within it.
Success to me, is having tolerance. In a world where tolerance is severely lacking, I’m so proud of myself and the people around, who see the beauty in all people no matter their beliefs, backgrounds or upbringings.
Success to me, is being able to achieve my goals. Career goals, life goals and personal things I want to achieve. Nothing says victory like achieving the things you’ve always strived for.
Success to me, is having a healthy family. Family, in most cases, are the roots of your entire life – and they will always be your family no matter the circumstances. Seeing them with health and happiness is such an important thing, and in the situations where that isn’t the case, being there as support is something to never take for granted.
Success to me, is finding a career that I love. I’m so grateful to have found something that I’m infinitely passionate about. This blog is something that I’ve worked so hard on since the very beginning, and to now be doing this as my job, to me… is the real definition of success.
Success to me, is growing old. Living every single day is a privilege. You literally never know when it will slip from your fingers. I strive to live my life to the absolute fullest, without regrets or remorse.
Success to me, is having a lot of money. Money will never buy my happiness, my freedom or my peace of mind. Of course, being able to financially care for myself and my future family is so important, but it will never ever define my success.
This is what success means to me… What does success mean to you? ❂
